'02 Dodge Stratus Coupe R/T - Reviews
The Stratus
Coupe is a dream of a car. Having returned to NASCAR in
2001, Dodge
needed a sports coupe to reflect their return to performance
automobiles. What they needed was to partner with a proven
engine and frame, wrap it with an aggressive yet graceful
body, and outfit the interior with a comfortable and exhilarating
cockpit.
That partnership came from an already solid relationship
with Mitsubishi Motors. Taking the frame and engine that is
already shared by the Eclipse and Gallant, Dodge had the skeleton
and heart of an already strong line of cars.
 As
for the interior, well, any sports car is going to have a
particularly uncomfortable feel the first time a non-sports
car driver sits into one. I complained of the low profile,
and the narrow front window expression. But once you drive
it for a day, all those complaints melt away as the shear
pleasure and power of the experience take over. The dash controls
are easy to adjust and read, the seats are supportive and
feature 4 separate controls including lumbar support adjustments.
This is no rice rocket or muscle car. Mopar hasn't yet discovered
the loyal fan base yet. Probably that has more to do with
the lack of promotions Dodge is investing in the Stratus.
But there is an aftermarket growing for this car, and its
fans are relentless in their pursuit of faster, better, sleeker
improvements.
I bought my Stratus on the 29th of December 2001 with the
gracious patience of my girlfriend Kendra at my side. Fred
Martin Dodge, located in Hartville Oh, were very helpful
and supportive all the way around. Finding the car I wanted
was quick and buying it took the usually 3 hour journey of
negotiating the price. I would definitely consider shopping
there again.
