"...Wrapping my fingers around the forward edge of the strut, I eased myself out of the cabin and into the 75mph slip-stream. Hanging heavily beneath the wing, I looked down at the drop zone sliding past 3,500ft below. My mind whirling, I looked too Lerch kneeling in the doorway watching me. His hand arched upwards and I strained to thrust my pelvis into the wind. Then his finger snapped out at me and my hands opened.

In between heartbeats the plane fell upwards and I de-arched, looking down and swimming my legs, so many hours of practice instantly overwhelmed by instinct. `Arch-thousand, two-thousand, three-thousand,` my voice trailed away until with a rustling snap the bright rainbow fabric of my canopy whipped out and above me. Plummeting downward I took stock of my situation, fouled chute, slider hung up, line twist..."
