On March 3rd 2001 I made my first sky dive. A year earlier it was just another one of those "we should do that sometime" things that friends talk about doing together, but never seem to get coordinated. However, once I set my mind to something, there is very little to stop me attaching a challenge head on. So I did some research, saved up a few dollars and scheduled myself at a reputable local Diving School.

I signed up for the six jump Static Line Package with Canton Air Sports. It was a little under $300 with the winter season discount, but regularly it's a very affordable $320. I absolutely recommend to anyone remotely interested in skydiving to choose a package. You can't beat the value of the package and besides, as I discovered, one jump just isn't enough to get the full enjoyment of the experience.

My instructor Lurch and meMy instructor, Lerch (yeah he had a real name, Steve, but it's just cooler to call him by his handle), was an impressive teacher. With over 500 jumps not only is he very experienced but also quite comfortable and fun to be around. Our class was 4 hours long and covered all the essentials including lots of practice and simulated jumps. Roger, the owner of Canton Air Sports, was my pilot for the day and really went out of his way to make me feel welcome. Mike, who was also an experienced jumper, took the pictures of my first jump. And, as you can see, he took some really terrific shots. Overall I give high marks to Canton Air Sports. If you are in the Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia area, you'll find their facility and school well managed, operated and well worth the experience.
