Toledo, Oh
This
last November I was invited to join a client's Expo in Toledo Ohio. While
I thoroughly enjoyed the activities the client offered, which included
the release of a very important intranet project we'd been working on
for almost half of 2001, my stay in Toledo was somewhat less than fantastic.
Maybe it was that I enjoyed the company so much ... maybe it was the
time of the year ... maybe it was just a slow weekend, but if ever there
was a picture of a city in distress - Toledo, Ohio is that. Closed businesses
line the downtown streets, and while the night life was reasonably active
it wasn't anything like what I would have expected out of a medium sized
city.
If anyone feels that they can convince me that Toledo is worth visiting
again, please let me know. But barring that, I would encourage visitors
to find somewhere else to spend your power-vacation.
| Travel: |
Auto - Access to Toledo is easiest by the toll
way I-80. Once you exit the highway the city is only a few miles off
(and the only land mark in the flats of western Ohio). Easy/ well
marked exits take you within a few blocks of downtown. Traffic is
light-moderate for the weekend. |
| Sites: |
Downtown - From my visit, I think the downtown
is really the only thing going on. Not that that is saying much. But
if there is life in the city, you'll find it there.

| Hotels: |
Radisson - Now I've stayed in Radisson Inn's
before, and considered it on the plusher side of available accomodations.
The Toledo Radisson was awful though. Our rooms weren't ready until
after dinner. Their meals had very minimal selections and were way
over priced considering the quality. |
| Restaurants: |
Radisson - Menus were printed on 8x11 pages and
consisted of only 6 entrees. Way over-priced for the quality. The
bar closed at 2am sharp. Dissappointing. |
| Clubs: |
Although I didn't venture to the club scene as I was
there Sunday-Monday nights, I did see a few chain-clubs in the area
including a Banana Joes. |
